Reviews:
Genki Linn Genki CD Player, Linn Majik Integrated Amplifier, Linn Ninka Floorstanding loudspeakers. Hi-Fi Choice Magazine, UK, May 2002Linn was the high-end turntable manufacturer that took on the giants of hi-fi and won. One of the most distinctive and musical sounding systems you will find.
Genki Linn Genki, AUDIO, Germany, January 2002:, January 2002"...When it comes to palpability, focussing and melodiousness the Linn Genki had no peer. And what's more: The Linn was the only player in our blind listening tests to produce the proverbial goose bumps. 100 points. 5 ears. Reference Class."
Genki Linn Aktiv System; Genki CD Player, Kolektor Preamplifier, LK85 Power Amplifiers, Ninka Loudspeakers. $ensible Sound, USA, Nov/Dec 01, December 2001" One of the qualities of the Linn System that I enjoyed most was the sense of rightness that does not come across as just a summation of isolated individual qualities. Within the limits of the system, which is certainly not Linn's highest-end offering, there is a sense of stability and solidity that helps to create the illusion of a live performance. Bottom Line: I enjoyed the music on this system. Every time I started to worry about some aspect that could be improved, I put on another recording and enjoyed it all over again. Audiophiles in the market for a new system in this general price range should try stopping by a Linn dealer for an audition. And I might add that anyone in search of a full-function, remote controlled, superbly engineered, and very flexible preamp really ought to check out the Kolektor."
Genki Q Magazine, June 2000At this level, hi-fi isn't a number, it has a name. Genki? Japanese for "energy", of course, the result of which translates into this brew of conventional wisdom and innovative perfection. You get the best track access software plus four sets of outputs. Sonically avoiding the va-voom and immediacy of its rivals, it articulates with a controlled focus. Others may dazzle but you'll always be wondering if Linn wasn't getting it just right. Sound***** Value***** Features*****
Genki Gramophone, May 2000In short, anyone daunted by the old belief that "Linn only works with Linn" really might be missing a trick if they dismiss the Genki without at least an extensive listen. This is by any standards, a rather special player, one much to be strongly recommended to any music lover in the market for a £1000 machine.
Genki What Hi-Fi?, March 2000"By any standards this is a superb player, and not just one for the army of Linn enthusiasts."Verdict: Supertest Winner: ***** Another fine player from Linn, the Genki is much more than just an option for all-Linn systems.
Genki What Hi-Fi, January 2000Linn System; Genki CD Player, Kolektor Preamplifier, LK85 Power Amplifier. The new Genki CD Player makes a very capable partner to the Award-winning Kolektor/LK85 amp combo, the result being a fast, punchy and detailed sound that can't fail to excite.
Genki Audio Magazine (USA), December 1999"Leaving aside the obvious appeal of the Genki to owners of Linn systems, it has so much going for it that it seems it will be a tonic for certain people...For user friendliness and absolute flexibility, however, the Genki might be the most obsolescence-resistant CD player on the market..I kinda think that grownups, like those who admit to riding a Harley over 50 is pretty sad, will be sorely tempted by the Genki's sheer intelligence." You have to look hard to spot the difference between the upscale Ikemi  and the Genki. From the front there is only one giveaway other than the name: the drawer is about three times as tall as that of the Ikemi. It belongs to the Philips CD-12 PRO transport, the same one used by a number of other manufacturers. And it is one of very few differences between the two players. The architecture is the same, and so are the power supply and the digital-to-analog converter, complete with HDCD decoding chip. Linn's custom-built transport (used in the Ikemi and the CD-12) actually doubles the cost of the player.Look at the back and you'll see more difference: the Genki doesn't have balanced outputs. But Linn makes it clear it doesn't much believe in balanced cabling, though customers buying very expensive gear expect to have it. Finally, the Genki has two pairs of output jacks marked "variable output." That's right...you can actually plug the player right into a power amp and control the volume from the Genki's remote. In all other respects, operating the Genki is just like operating the Ikemi.
